[ A THOUSAND YEARS ]
Last night of the year,
You're far and yet so near;
Bodies drift by like smoke,
Hands, drinks knot like rope,
Eyes as lost as souls,
Hearts filled with holes,
You're near and yet so far.
Last day of the year,
Promises renewed without fear,
Mistakes acknowledged, new beginnings rendered;
Dead ends strived into possibilities,
Hope rekindled like a beacon at the horizon
Only to be shattered again,
Like dreams and hearts and your fading voice.
I was there to witness
The first rays of the sun
Kissing your cheeks
On a new year.
I was there to witness
The first drops of rain
Caressing your hair
On a new year.
I was there by your side,
Waiting for my turn
To kiss you for the first time
On a new year.
I was there by your side,
And then I was not;
I felt you evanesce, saw our shadows unite,
Merging us for the last time
On a new year.
I've whispered to the stars
For a thousand years,
To guide me back to you.
I've dreamed about your eyes
For a thousand years,
Yearning to talk to them again.
I've been in solitude
For a thousand years,
Counting every second that I'm not with you.
I've seen devils falling for angels,
I've watched mankind celibrate
every new year,
And I've wondered:
How many more
until I get to kiss you?
How many more,
Until our hearts sing a duet,
Until our souls dance in symphony
Again?
I've loved you for a thousand years,
And I will love you for a thousand more;
I've waited for a thousand years,
And I will wait for a thousand more,
To intertwine my fingers with yours for
every second
of every minute
of every hour
of every day
of every week
of every month
of every year
of the rest of eternity.
